What is Primitive Reflex Integration?
Primitive reflexes are automatic movement patterns that serve to support early development.
Primitive reflexes develop in utero and are present in babies at birth. As a child’s nervous system matures, these reflexes are supposed to integrate and mature into voluntary patterns of movement. However, when primitive reflexes remain active or are insufficiently integrated, children often experience challenges with areas such as learning, attention, coordination, balance, posture, motor planning etc.
The Good News!
Primitive reflexes can integrate at any age! Once primitive reflexes are integrated we see a reduction in symptoms in children and an increase in function.
Primitive reflexes are key to brain development which is why we teach parents how to integrate these reflexes in their children at home!
